The Liav Baruch Quartet is an instrumental ensemble seeking to create a bridge between musical traditions of the Middle East and the world of contemporary jazz. At the heart of their music is the oud, an instrument deeply rooted in the region’s musical culture, which meets a modern harmonic language, free improvisation, and dynamic group dialogue.
Liav Baruch’s work grows out of a deep and personal familiarity with Arabic and Middle Eastern music, alongside a desire to continue developing these traditions through an open dialogue with contemporary jazz. The music draws inspiration from the maqamat of the East, Mediterranean sounds, and diverse musical traditions, creating a distinctive musical space that moves between tradition and innovation.
The ensemble’s music expresses an encounter between identities, memories, and cultures, offering the audience a sensitive, profound, and richly colorful musical experience.
