Gerasim Antarin is a unique, exceptional, and rare painter in every respect – his style, his ideas, and even his way of life.

Antarin paints people he has known throughout his life: women, animals, landscapes, hourglasses, musicians, and magicians, all appearing in a dreamy, hushed space, with a spiritual and even mystical atmosphere reminiscent of the saintly figures in Byzantine icons.

Antarin combines oil paints with tempera, an ancient painting technique, creating figures with similar physiognomy: delicate and slender faces, sharp and clear features, and an introverted, melancholic expression, as if they carry an existential burden upon their shoulders.
